Autism is a complex developmental disability that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. As a result, it is called a spectrum disorder. More recently, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has become more widely diagnosed due to an increase in research and awareness. We are more aware than ever of how prevalent it is generally. On a national level, researchers have found that there are over 5.4 million adults living with ASD.

Locally, The Autism Society- Kern Autism Network is dedicated to providing support, awareness, information, and education to families, professionals, and the public throughout Kern County. They help local families in the Kern County area with autism-related support service needs. They lead support groups, Autism Trainings, and IEP/IPP assistance.  Additionally, they fund scholarships for Camps, Advocacy, Community Events, and Resources to help the newly diagnosed. Most importantly, they mentor families through the process of being an advocate for their loved ones with autism spectrum disorders.
